On Wednesday, a Sun Country Airlines flight traveling from the Twin Cities to Mazatlán, Mexico, had to make a stop in El Paso, Texas. This decision was made due to a security concern.
Flight 593 landed safely in El Paso, and the airline confirmed that there were no further issues. The FBI’s El Paso office investigated the situation and stated there was no threat to the passengers, crew, or the aircraft.
The plane was carrying 156 passengers. Sun Country arranged for them to stay overnight in El Paso while they worked to get everyone to their final destination.
The airline issued an apology for the disruption, emphasizing that their top priority is ensuring the safety and security of everyone on board. They assured passengers that they would do their best to minimize the inconvenience.
Before the diversion, the flight had already experienced delays due to a winter storm affecting Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. It followed its regular route until it changed course over Texas to reach El Paso.
