The Trump administration has faced significant challenges regarding climate protection. Many people are pushing back against its policies through legal action. According to University of Chicago Law professor Aziz Huq, federal judges rule against Trump about 95% of the time. This trend has led to various headlines showcasing the administration’s legal struggles.

For instance, recent cases include a judge blocking troop mobilization to Portland and an appeals court halting Trump’s attempt to remove a Federal Reserve board member, Lisa Cook. Even judges appointed by Trump have ruled against some of his policies.

Concerns about the Supreme Court overturning these decisions have been raised. Generally, the Supreme Court sides with Trump about 20% of the time. High-profile cases often catch public attention, such as the recent rejection of Trump’s bid to fire a government watchdog or significant losses in New York appeals.

Even when the Supreme Court rules in favor of Trump, the legal processes slow down his administration’s initiatives. This has resulted in numerous headlines about delays in implementing key policies.

Legal actions against the Trump administration have emerged as a critical strategy for preserving climate protections and safeguarding democracy. Several state attorneys general, including Washington’s Nick Brown, have been actively involved in these lawsuits. Washington alone has seen around 40 cases against the administration.

Unions have also played a role in challenging Trump’s policies. Joining a union not only offers negotiation support but also helps protect democratic values. Non-profit organizations focused on climate issues also need support. Donations can enhance their legal capabilities, leading to better outcomes.

Three notable organizations include:

  1. Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC): With a history of litigation for over 40 years, NRDC has sued the Trump administration 163 times and won around 90% of those cases. Their current efforts include halting the continued operation of outdated fossil fuel plants and ensuring compliance with energy efficiency standards.

  2. Sierra Club: Beyond environmental advocacy, the Sierra Club organizes activities like hiking and biking, engaging the community with nature. Locally, they’re working to make heat pumps affordable for families. Nationally, they are also suing the Trump administration on various environmental matters.

  3. EarthJustice: This organization has been fighting for environmental justice for 60 years. Their current lawsuits aim to protect the climate and push back against harmful regulations.

The ongoing legal battles show that many are dedicated to defending our environment and democracy. If there are other organizations making an impact, sharing their stories can raise awareness and support.
