SALT LAKE CITY — This Tuesday, four cities in Utah County are hosting food drives at polling locations in American Fork, Pleasant Grove, Provo, and Vineyard. The initiative comes as part of a collaboration with Community Action Services and Food Bank, encouraging community members to bring extra food as they head to vote.
Jessica Miller, the Chief Impact Officer at Community Action Services, highlights that around 11,000 families in Utah County are facing challenges due to the recent SNAP benefits cutoff. She anticipates that the food bank will see an increase in daily demand of over 5,000 pounds of food. This highlights the pressing need for community support during this time.
The “Get Out The Food” campaign aims to connect the act of voting with an opportunity to help those in need. It’s a simple way for citizens to contribute to their community’s wellbeing.
Here’s what the food bank is currently seeking:
- Canned soups
- Canned fruit
- Peanut butter
- Jelly or jam
- Macaroni & cheese
- Kid-friendly cereal
- Canned meats (like tuna and chicken)
- Canned vegetables (corn, peas, carrots)
- Diapers for kids (especially sizes 4, 5, 6, and pull-ups)
- Adult diapers (sizes L and XL)
You can drop off food donations at:
- American Fork Library — 64 S 100 E
- Pleasant Grove Public Safety Building — 108 S 100 E
- Provo Health and Justice Building — 151 S University Avenue
- Vineyard City Hall — 125 S Main Street
Voters can deposit food donations in barrels at these locations or use a QR code to join a virtual food drive.
For those who can’t make it Tuesday, donations are always welcome at Community Action Services, located at 815 S Freedom Blvd, Ste 100, Provo, UT.
This initiative isn’t just about voting. According to a recent poll, 74% of participants in Utah believe that community support drives positive change. Every bit helps, especially during tough economic times.
