Supporting Lincoln University: CIAA Rallies Together in Times of Tragedy

Charlotte, N.C. (October 27, 2025) – The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) is deeply saddened by the recent shooting at Lincoln University (PA) during homecoming weekend. One person lost their life, and six others sustained injuries. Our hearts go out to everyone affected by this tragedy.

Jacqie McWilliams Parker, CIAA Commissioner:
“We are devastated by the violence that disrupted what should have been a joyful celebration. Homecoming is a time for community, and this senseless act has created a heavy burden for us all. Our thoughts are with the victim’s family and those who were hurt. The CIAA community stands together in times like these, and we will support Lincoln University as they heal.”

The CIAA, founded in 1912, is the oldest athletic conference for African American institutions in the U.S. It has a rich history of promoting sportsmanship and community. Every year, the CIAA hosts 14 championships, attracting over 150,000 fans nationwide. The Basketball Tournament has received recognition for its positive impact on sports tourism.

In recent years, violence during events has become a growing concern across the country. According to a recent study by the National Center for Education Statistics, incidents of violence at college events have increased by 15% in the last decade. Such trends raise serious questions about safety in our communities.

Social media has seen an outpouring of grief and calls for change following the Lincoln University tragedy. Many users emphasize the need for better safety measures at large gatherings. Some lawmakers are now advocating for stricter regulations surrounding event security.

The CIAA continues to stand united with Lincoln University and urges everyone to come together in support during this challenging time. For more details about the CIAA and its initiatives, visit their official site and follow them on social media.
