Pat Surtain II Poised for Comeback with Broncos
Pat Surtain II, a star cornerback for the Denver Broncos, is ready to hit the field again after recovering from a partially torn pectoral muscle. He admitted to feeling anxious but eager as he prepares for Sunday’s match against the Washington Commanders.
This time away from the game was a first for him. “It was a different experience,” Surtain shared, reflecting on how hard it was to sit out. He missed three games, the longest stretch he’s faced in his football career.
Adding to the excitement, linebacker Alex Singleton is back on the field after successfully undergoing surgery for a cancerous tumor. The Broncos’ defense, which has been thriving with a record of 9-2, is now at full strength.
The Broncos have excelled in defense this season, leading the NFL in sacks and boasting the lowest passer rating allowed (46.7). They’re also third in scoring defense. During Surtain’s absence, teammates Kris Abrams-Draine and rookie Jahdae Barron stepped up and helped the team go 3-0. “They played really well,” Surtain noted, impressed by their performance.
Defensive coordinator Vance Joseph echoed Surtain’s sentiments, emphasizing the importance of depth as the team heads into crucial games. “Having those young guys get meaningful reps is huge for our team,” he said, reinforcing the idea that this depth will be critical as they aim for a championship.
Surtain got injured making a tackle against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 8, feeling an awkward twist in his arm. Fortunately, it wasn’t as severe as it could have been. He was diligent in his recovery and worked hard during rehab, stating, “I attacked rehab the right way. I got it back stronger.”
As he gets ready to rejoin the lineup, Surtain has recorded 21 tackles this season. Prior to this injury, he had only missed two games in his entire career.
For the Broncos, Surtain’s return comes at a crucial moment. With their current eight-game winning streak, the excitement among players and fans alike builds as they strive for success in the coming matches. This determination, paired with Surtain’s talent, makes the Broncos a formidable team in the league.
