Swadeshi Advocates Rally for Record Diwali Sales: How ‘Vocal for Local’ is Shaping India’s Festive Economy

Anurag Thakur, a Member of Parliament from the Bharatiya Janata Party, recently spoke about the ‘Vocal for Local’ initiative. This program aims to boost India’s economy by encouraging people to buy locally made products. Thakur pointed out that supporting Indian goods is vital for promoting self-reliance and supporting local businesses. He believes that showcasing Indian products on a global stage can further strengthen the economy.

At the Bastar Dussehra celebrations in Jagdalpur, Union Home Minister Amit Shah shared similar views. He argued that if all 1.4 billion Indians embrace the Swadeshi movement, it could elevate India to a leading position in the world economy. He also mentioned recent policy changes, like reductions in GST rates, which are designed to stimulate economic growth and create jobs. According to Shah, the Aatmnirbhar Bharat campaign plays a crucial role in driving economic activity.

As the festive season approaches, the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) predicts record sales during Diwali. The organization noted a strong consumer preference for Indian-made products, estimating sales could exceed ₹4.75 lakh crore. CAIT Secretary General Praveen Khandelwal emphasized the positive sentiment among shoppers. They also held an exhibition featuring Swadeshi products made by women entrepreneurs, highlighting the quality of Indian craftsmanship.

Recent research shows that 64% of consumers in India are now more inclined to purchase local products than they were five years ago. This shift reflects a growing awareness of the benefits of supporting the local economy. With the festive spirit in the air, this trend is likely to flourish even more.

By coming together and prioritizing local products, individuals can contribute to a larger movement that supports not just their communities but also the national economy.
