Bhubaneswar is buzzing with news from the recent 11th Standing Committee meeting of the State Wildlife Council (SWC). This assembly endorsed five major development projects, including four mobile tower installations and a vital national highway construction under the Bharatmala Pariyojana. These projects now await the Chief Minister’s final nod before heading to the Central Wildlife Council.
In this meeting, led by the Minister for Forest, Environment, and Climate Change, key discussions took place regarding the protection and prosperity of wildlife in the state. The committee, set up under the Wildlife Amendment (Protection) Act of 2022, aims to address issues affecting wildlife and ensure timely solutions.
Four projects were presented to enhance telecommunication in rural areas as part of the Government of India’s 4G initiative. These installations aim to provide seamless connectivity for rural residents, helping them access essential government services in health and education. New towers will be built in Belgaum (Gajapati district) by Reliance Jio, and in three locations in Gania tehsil of Nayagarh district by BSNL.
Besides mobile connectivity, a significant highway project is also in the spotlight. The new national highway will link Govindpur in Dhenkanal district to Tangi in Cuttack district. This road is expected to ease the heavy traffic flow on National Highway No. 16, improving transport efficiency between Cuttack and Bhubaneswar.
