Penn State Health is thrilled to introduce Teresa Swenson as the new vice president of musculoskeletal services. Teresa brings over 30 years of experience in healthcare, focusing on orthopedics for the last 15 years. She officially joined the team on December 16.
In her new role, Teresa will work closely with Dr. April Armstrong, who leads the Department of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation. Together, they will develop and implement strategic plans to enhance the musculoskeletal service line across the health system. Their goal is to integrate these strategies with the educational and research missions at the Penn State College of Medicine.
“Having someone with Teresa’s expertise is immensely valuable,” Dr. Armstrong said. “We are eager to combine our efforts to advance ortho care at Penn State Health.”
Before joining Penn State Health, Teresa served as the associate vice president for the surgical group at Evangelical Community Hospital in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania. There, she oversaw not just orthopedics, but also general surgery, ENT, and gynecological services. Under her leadership, the hospital earned the Orthopedic Center of Excellence designation in 2023, a notable achievement as it was the first awarded in Pennsylvania.
Teresa is dedicated to improving musculoskeletal health. “I aim for excellence in all aspects of care delivery,” she shared. “This role is an amazing opportunity to be part of a respected health system known for its patient care and innovation.”
Her experience also includes managing the Musculoskeletal Institute at Geisinger and working in orthopedics at the University of Florida Jacksonville Healthcare Center. She holds an MBA from the University of Scranton and became an ACHE Fellow in 2024. Her educational background includes a bachelor’s degree in health from the University of North Florida and an associate degree in radiography from Florida Community College of Jacksonville.
Teresa’s leadership will undoubtedly help Penn State Health continue its mission of providing top-notch orthopedic care while supporting research and education.
