Tajikistan Unveils Bold Climate Initiatives at Ashgabat Conference: How They’re Tackling Climate Change

At the recent Central Asian Climate Change Conference (CACCC-2025) in Ashgabat, Tajikistan showcased its commitment to tackling climate challenges. The country urged conference attendees to participate in the upcoming High-Level International Conference on Glacier Preservation (ICGP 2025), set for May 29-31 in Dushanbe.

The conference, which wraps up today, gathered various stakeholders to discuss pressing climate action in the region. This year’s theme centered on securing financial resources for climate initiatives, an urgent need as climate change continues to threaten ecosystems and communities.

Loiq Rahmonzoda, Tajikistan’s Deputy Chairman for Environmental Protection, outlined the nation’s climate goals. He emphasized the importance of incorporating climate adaptations across all economic sectors. “Glaciers are not just water sources; they signal climate change,” he remarked. This highlights how crucial these ice formations are for understanding broader environmental shifts.

Tajikistan is actively implementing various adaptation measures to bolster its climate resilience. The government is working to ensure that climate policies are integrated across different industries, enabling a more proactive approach to these issues.

Marjona Sharipova, an official from the Ministry of Finance, is representing Tajikistan in discussions about climate financing. Her insights focus on strategies to fund national and regional climate objectives effectively.

Another key presentation at the conference came from Solijon Mirzoyev, who discussed landscape restoration efforts linking local actions to broader regional policies. This is vital as it promotes cooperative approaches to environmental issues that affect all Central Asian nations.

The CACCC-2025 is a collaboration between the Regional Environmental Center for Central Asia (CAREC), the World Bank, and other international organizations, all dedicated to improving climate action in this vulnerable region.

As the world becomes more aware of climate change, initiatives like CACCC-2025 and the ICGP 2025 are critical. They bolster cooperation and highlight the urgent need for effective financial strategies and innovative adaptation measures.
