Hyderabad: The excitement is still in the air after the Indian women’s cricket team clinched the ODI World Cup title, defeating South Africa. Their incredible achievement has drawn a wave of rewards, starting with a substantial cash prize of ₹51 crores from BCCI and additional financial awards from state governments.
Adding to the celebrations, Tata Motors has announced a special surprise: each player will receive a Tata Sierra, a vehicle that holds nostalgic significance in India, originally launched in 1991 as one of the first privately owned SUVs in the country. The new model, set to hit the market on November 25, 2025, will feature modern designs and enhancements.
Tata Motors praised the team in a statement, highlighting their determination and effort in bringing pride to the nation. Shailesh Chandra, MD and CEO of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, expressed, “The Indian Women’s Cricket Team has made the entire nation proud. Their journey demonstrates the power of belief and determination, inspiring every Indian.”
The final match on November 2 was filled with memorable performances, including Shafali Verma’s impressive 87 runs and Deepti Sharma’s five-wicket haul. This victory marked a historic moment as Harmanpreet Kaur became the first Indian captain to lead the team to an ODI World Cup win since Kapil Dev in 1983 and MS Dhoni in 2011.
In addition to Tata’s reward, the Maharashtra government announced a financial prize of ₹2.25 crore for each of three standout players: Smriti Mandhana, Jemimah Rodrigues, and Radha Yadav.
The collective celebration reflects a significant cultural moment in Indian sports, with a growing recognition and support system for women’s cricket. According to a recent survey by the International Cricket Council (ICC), women’s sports have seen a surge in viewership and sponsorship, highlighting the rising popularity of women’s cricket worldwide.
As the celebrations continue, reactions on social media reveal widespread admiration for the team’s achievement. Fans are now eagerly awaiting the reintroduction of the Tata Sierra, which symbolizes not just automotive history but also the triumph of Indian women in sports.
