The latest season of The Bachelorette is in limbo as Taylor Frankie Paul won’t be facing court over recent domestic violence claims. This comes after the Salt Lake County District Attorney’s Office decided not to file charges.
DA Sim Gill announced today that after examining evidence from the Draper and West Jordan police departments, there wasn’t enough to move forward with a case against Paul.
Initially, ABC pulled the show right before its March 22 premiere after a troubling video surfaced. In it, Paul was seen throwing metal stools during an altercation with her ex-boyfriend, Dakota Mortensen. Already dealing with a guilty plea for aggravated assault from a separate incident in 2023, she now faces growing scrutiny.
The disruptions have cost ABC tens of millions after the show was shelved. Paul is currently under probation for previous charges, which could have led to further penalties had the DA pursued new charges.
In a letter to local police, the prosecutor explained that many reported incidents were too old to prosecute, and where incidents fell within the statute of limitations, the evidence just wasn’t strong enough.
The DA concluded that “no charges will be filed” based on the evidence provided. While Disney, ABC’s parent company, has remained silent on this development, Paul’s legal team has not commented either.
Recently, a judge ruled that Paul cannot spend unsupervised time with her young son. A hearing regarding protective orders between her and Mortensen is scheduled for April 30.
