Team USA Settles into Athletes’ Village: Discover Their Favorite ‘Smash’ Pizza Delights!

Milan is buzzing as athletes from around the world arrive for the Winter Olympics. The vibe is high, especially in the Olympic villages scattered across northern Italy’s stunning landscapes.

Take Cory Thiesse, a curler from Minnesota. When she first opened her door at the Fiames Olympic Village, she was awestruck. “We are really in the middle of the mountains. It’s amazing,” she shares. Her curling partner, Korey Dropkin, also admires the breathtaking scenery. “It’s picturesque everywhere you look,” he says.

The Olympic villages are designed for comfort and efficiency. They include sleeping quarters for athletes and support teams, gyms, and even laundry facilities. Each village has a cafeteria that is surprisingly popular among athletes. While steamed veggies are available, many are opting for pasta, a staple here in Italy.

In more urban settings like Milan, hockey and figure skaters are soaking up the atmosphere. Ilia Malinin, a figure skater, enjoys the diversity. “It’s so cool to see so many athletes from different sports all in one place,” he says.

There’s even a touch of nature in the urban village. Madison Chock, an ice dancer, highlights an athlete lounge designed like a greenhouse. “It’s a nice touch,” she says, mentioning that athletes can even take a plant back to their rooms.

Snowboarders, on the other hand, are stationed near Livigno, known for its beautiful landscapes and delicious food. Lily Dhawornvej from Colorado enjoyed the local cuisine so much that she devoured seven slices of pizza in one sitting! “That’s all I’ve been eating,” she laughs.

Hahna Norman, another snowboarder, reflects on her experiences. “Post-big air practice, we all got together in the food hall and played cards while eating pizza,” she says. The camaraderie is strong, and the meals are fueling their energy.

In a recent poll by the International Olympic Committee, 92% of athletes emphasized the importance of nutrition in their performance. Not surprisingly, pasta and pizza have quickly become favorites due to their carbohydrate content. Jessica Perlmutter shares her experiences, mentioning she’s enjoyed some of the best gluten-free pasta in Italy, surprising given her dietary restrictions.

Overall, the athletes are embracing the Olympic spirit, balancing serious competition with unforgettable moments in Italy. The blend of sport, culture, and breathtaking scenery makes this Winter Olympics one for the books.
