Teams Targeting Seahawks Veterans in Exciting Trade Talks: What You Need to Know

Teams have reached out to the Seattle Seahawks about linebacker Boye Mafe and cornerback Riq Woolen, according to ESPN. Despite this interest, Seattle is not eager to part with either player. As the NFL trade deadline approaches this Tuesday, it’s uncertain how much aggressive interest other teams might show.

The Seahawks are facing a tough financial decision. Key players like wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba, offensive tackle Charles Cross, and cornerback Devon Witherspoon will need new contracts soon. This makes it difficult for them to keep everyone.

Boye Mafe, who will turn 27 this month, had a strong performance over the last two seasons with 15 sacks. However, this year he’s had a slow start, with no sacks and just one tackle for loss in seven games. Since Mafe is set to hit free agency after this season, his future with Seattle is uncertain.

Riq Woolen also had a standout rookie year in 2022, tying for the league lead with six interceptions. This season, though, he has yet to register any interceptions and has allowed three passes to be defended. Like Mafe, Woolen’s rookie contract is up soon, adding to the Seahawks’ dilemma.

Around the league, other players are also in the spotlight as the trade deadline nears. The Cincinnati Bengals have indicated they are not ready to trade defensive end Trey Hendrickson. However, if they lose on Sunday, some insiders speculate this could change. Hendrickson has had a rocky season with four sacks and a hip injury keeping him off the practice field.

Linebacker Logan Wilson from the Bengals is another name to watch. He recently asked for a trade, and teams like the Bills, Cowboys, and Colts have shown interest. Wilson is also sidelined due to a calf injury.

In Minnesota, the Vikings are still looking for an experienced backup quarterback after trading Sam Howell earlier this season. Kirk Cousins is a viable option but the Falcons appear reluctant to let him go.

Cleveland has been active in trades lately, acquiring new players while maintaining a focus on adding talent. They have completed multiple trades recently and are still hunting for young and promising players to improve their roster.

As the trade deadline approaches, all eyes will be on how teams choose to navigate their needs versus their financial realities.
