PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The No. 8 Harvard women’s water polo team enjoyed a successful road trip, winning both games against Brown and Marist on Saturday.
In the first match, Harvard faced off against Brown in a tough contest, emerging with a 16-9 victory. This win not only solidified their success against the Bears this season but also marked Head Coach Ted Minnis‘ 250th career win. The Crimson now stands at 16-1, starting off strong, the best record since the 1988-89 season, and boasting the longest win streak among top-10 teams.
In the opening game against Brown:
- Maya O’Dea quickly established dominance, scoring the first three goals for Harvard.
- O’Dea completed her hat trick with a key exclusion, pushing the score to 3-2.
- Heidi Heffelfinger assisted Lily Britt for a goal, helping Harvard lead at the end of the first quarter.
- Brown managed to tie the game at four, but Niki Piovan scored to regain momentum for the Crimson.
- Lily Britt restored a two-goal lead with a fantastic lob shot.
- Harvard entered the final quarter ahead 10-7.
- In the last frame, goals from Emma Gilbert, Niki Piovan, Ruby Hodge, and Erin Kim sealed the win.
- Erin Kim made notable contributions with one goal and two assists.
- Maya O’Dea and Emma Gilbert each finished with four points.
In the second match, Harvard took on Marist, securing another win with a score of 13-9.
Next, the team will head west for the Aztec Invitational next weekend. The Crimson is aiming to continue this winning streak and build on their impressive season so far.
