In Westlake, a few notable incidents occurred recently, showcasing some pressing concerns in the community.

Stolen Delivery Truck

On December 30, a food delivery driver parked his running Honda truck in front of the DoubleTree hotel while he made a delivery. When he returned, the truck was gone. A neighbor on Bradley Road noticed a suspicious truck in their driveway and alerted the authorities.

Police quickly apprehended a 16-year-old boy nearby. He had seen the truck running and decided to take it for a ride but then wanted to abandon it. He now faces charges of grand theft in juvenile court.

Overturned Jeep Incident

At midnight on December 26, a Jeep hit a pole on Detroit Road, flipping onto its side. Officers arrived to find a 36-year-old woman inside the vehicle, who appeared to be intoxicated. She admitted to her condition and sustained only minor injuries. She was taken to the hospital for evaluation and received citations for failing to control her vehicle and for driving under the influence.

Aggravated Burglary Case

On December 29, police responded to a frantic 911 call around 10:30 p.m. A resident saw a man chasing a woman and acting violently. The suspect was caught on the resident’s doorbell camera striking the woman and dragging her by her hair.

Law enforcement arrived swiftly and detained the man without issue. The victim, whom the suspect had previously dated, chose not to seek medical help. The man had broken a window to gain entry into the home when she refused to let him in.

Now under arrest, the 36-year-old suspect is charged with aggravated burglary. Prosecutors are looking to present further evidence to the grand jury for additional charges. A judge has also issued an order of protection for the victim.
