Tel Aviv University (TAU) recently launched the Global Young Leadership Community, aimed at connecting young leaders from Israel and around the world. This initiative focuses on building academic and professional relationships among emerging leaders across various sectors.
The event took place at the residence of philanthropist Jeremy Coller and featured notable attendees, including TAU President Prof. Ariel Porat and former IDF Spokesperson Rear Adm. (res.) Daniel Hagari, a TAU graduate. The program is a joint effort by TAU’s Alumni Organization, the Aurion community, and the Israeli Friends of Tel Aviv University.
Prof. Porat emphasized the program’s goal to cultivate a new generation of leaders who understand global issues while maintaining strong connections to Israel. During the event, Hagari engaged in a thought-provoking interview, where he discussed his role during the recent Swords of Iron conflict. He highlighted the critical importance of public trust in the military, stating, “An army without public trust during wartime cannot navigate such a crisis.”
A recent study showed that public perception of military actions can significantly influence overall trust, which reinforces Hagari’s point. The ongoing efforts of the current IDF spokesperson, Brig. Gen. Effie Defrin, focus on restoring this vital trust.
The event also included a panel of TAU students who shared their experiences balancing academic life with mandatory military service. Discussions revealed the challenges faced by these young leaders and how their military experiences shaped their worldview.
