KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The Lady Vols faced a tough loss against Ole Miss, falling 2-1 on Friday at Sherri Parker Lee Stadium.
Tennessee’s junior pitcher, Sage Mardjetko, delivered an impressive performance. She completed the game, allowing just two runs—one of which was earned—and struck out 12 batters. Despite her strong efforts, her record now stands at 7-1 for the season.
Ole Miss wasted no time scoring. Kennedy Bunker hit a solo home run in the first inning, putting the Rebels ahead 1-0.
In the third inning, Tennessee responded without a hit. Sophia Knight reached on a fielder’s choice and moved to second on a passed ball. Ella Dodge, Gabby Leach, and Emma Clarke followed by drawing three walks, allowing Knight to score and tying the game.
The middle innings were quiet, with Mardjetko keeping Ole Miss at bay. However, in the sixth inning, a single and a throwing error from Tennessee allowed Ole Miss to retake the lead. A wild pitch brought in an additional run, pushing the score to 2-1.
Tennessee made a push in the seventh, getting a runner into scoring position, but couldn’t convert, resulting in a narrow loss.
The Lady Vols managed only three hits, with Knight and Clarke contributing two of them.
