The director of The Apprentice, Ali Abbasi, is responding to a reported incident at the Golden Globes party earlier this year where he allegedly groped someone.
After the news broke, Abbasi quickly addressed it on X (formerly Twitter). He stated, “I want to address the recent articles about me directly and openly. I fully understand that my action made someone uncomfortable, regardless of my intent, and for that, I am truly sorry.” His humble approach aimed to clarify his side of the story.
Abbasi explained that he had interacted with the person before and believed they had a friendly relationship. When he saw this person at the party, he was excited. He admitted to making an overly familiar gesture—a slap on the rear—which he meant to be playful, not sexual. He realized it was inappropriate and apologized immediately, followed by another apology through his representatives the next day.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Abbasi is no longer represented by CAA and Entertainment 360 due to the allegations. However, he stated that his choice to leave was part of a broader career strategy and not solely because of this incident. “The suggestion that I was dropped by my representation due to this interaction is false,” he clarified.
He further emphasized the importance of accountability. “I made a mistake, I apologized, and I have learned a valuable life lesson,” he said. “I remain grateful for the incredible work of our cast, crew, and supporters on The Apprentice, and I hope the focus stays on their achievements.”
The Apprentice has already gained recognition, earning two Oscar nominations, with Sebastian Stan portraying a young Donald Trump. Despite the controversy, the film’s success highlights the hard work of everyone involved.
