Thorpe Lions Unite to Gather Food Donations: Join the Cause Today!

The Jim Thorpe Lions Club organized a food drive on a recent Friday at Bright Path Brewing in East Jim Thorpe. They collected over 250 food items, filling four large bins to the top. Beth Kuhla, one of the event’s coordinators, mentioned how meaningful it was to see the community come together to support those in need.

This food drive was part of the Lions Clubs Week of Service, which runs from January 3 to 11 and focuses on combatting hunger. On Saturday morning, the collected food was delivered to Memorial Hall in Jim Thorpe.

Besides these food initiatives, the Jim Thorpe Lions Club plays an important role in the community. They offer scholarships for local high school seniors and conduct eye screenings for young children in the area, helping to catch vision problems early. They also organize Hometown Hero banners that honor local heroes in Jim Thorpe.

Looking ahead, the Lions Club is set to participate in “Picking up the Poconos” on April 25, continuing their commitment to community service by helping clean up litter in the area. This event will be part of their ongoing Week of Service focused on environmental efforts, which runs from April 18 to 26.

Community involvement like this not only strengthens the bonds among residents but also creates a lasting impact. According to a 2022 survey from the National Volunteer Center, communities with active civic organizations report stronger connections among residents and a higher sense of belonging.

It’s impressive to see groups like the Jim Thorpe Lions Club making a real difference right in their hometown. Their ongoing service reminds us of the vital role local organizations play in fostering a sense of community and support.
