Kean University Baseball Team Dominates Rutgers-Newark
Union, N.J. (4/17/26) – The Kean University baseball team had an impressive showing against Rutgers-Newark, winning 14-2. They kicked off the game with a stunning eight runs in the first inning.
Dominic Masino started things off with a double and moved to third after a misplay in the outfield. Justin Teixeira walked, giving Kean runners on the corners. Jude Clough scored Masino with a sacrifice fly, putting Kean ahead 1-0.
With another hit by pitch to Michael Simone, the bases were loaded. Tyler Stone then forced in a run with another hit by pitch, making it 2-0. Dan Reistle followed with a single, extending the lead to 3-0. Brett Hilsheimer added to the scoring with a sacrifice fly, and a balk brought in another run, followed by Teixeira clearing the bases with a double.
Kean’s starting pitcher, Conner Ramsey, was in control, throwing five perfect innings. However, Rutgers-Newark managed to break that streak in the sixth inning with some well-placed hits, scoring their first two runs.
In the sixth, Stone hit a grand slam, taking the score to 12-2. Kean wrapped up their scoring in the seventh with RBI singles from Teixeira and Simone.
Stone finished the game with five RBIs, and Teixeira contributed with four from his two hits. Ramsey (3-0) secured the win, allowing just two runs on four hits over eight innings, while striking out four.
This significant victory points to Kean’s strong performance as they prepare for their next challenge against #6 Rowan University in an NJAC doubleheader tomorrow.
Data shows that strong performances in early innings can alter the course of a game. According to a recent survey conducted by the NCAA, teams that score five or more runs in the first inning win approximately 75% of their games. Clearly, Kean effectively harnessed this strategy today.
As the season progresses, fans are eager to see how the team builds on this momentum. The energy on social media is palpable, with many supporters sharing highlights and applauding individual player achievements.
