CHICAGO – DePaul softball had a mixed day against Georgetown, winning the first game 5-2 but falling flat in the second, losing 20-5. It was a day filled with ups and downs for the Blue Demons at Cacciatore Stadium.
In the opener, Senior Lexi Houge led the team with a batting average of .429, contributing three hits and scoring twice. Freshman Jolie Adams also shined, hitting .400 and driving in two runs.
Sophomore Chelsea Parker added two doubles, scoring two runs herself, and Maya Wondaal celebrated a standout moment with a three-RBI triple in game two.
However, defense was an issue. DePaul showed promise with three double plays but made six errors over both games.
In the first game, pitcher Hannah Messer started strong, allowing just two runs over seven hits, improving her season record to 5-7. The second game, however, was a different story. Georgetown stormed out to an early lead, causing a pitching change after just one inning.
In the first game, the Blue Demons struck first. Houge led off with a single, and her hustle set the tone. Key plays from Parker and Ettema supported the offensive charge, and Adams’s two-RBI double helped seal the win.
The second game started off rocky for DePaul. Georgetown quickly took control, but the Blue Demons tried to fight back, highlighted by a bases-clearing triple from Wondaal, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Hoyas’ explosive offense.
As they approach their next game, it’s essential for DePaul to regroup. They’ll need to sharpen their defense and maintain offensive momentum to compete effectively in their series against Georgetown.
Following an unpredictable season, DePaul’s performance is important not just for their standing but also for team morale. Experts suggest that consistency in both offense and defense could propel them through the rest of the season.
In conclusion, while the day ended with a split, fans are eager to see how the Blue Demons will bounce back in their next matchup.
