Max Langenhan made history at the luge world championships in Whistler, British Columbia. He, along with teammate Felix Loch, showcased Germany’s outstanding performance in the competition. Germany finished the weekend with five gold medals out of seven events.
Langenhan secured his second consecutive gold in men’s singles, making him only the fifth athlete to do so. He edged out Loch, who took home the silver medal. This achievement marked Loch’s 11th career medal in men’s singles at the world championships, setting a new record. Austria’s Nico Gleirscher completed the podium by taking third place.
“This is an absolute dream day,” Langenhan said, expressing his excitement about standing on top of the podium with Loch.
For the U.S. team, Jonny Gustafson finished in eighth place, leading the American effort.
In the team relay event, Langenhan teamed up with Julia Taubitz, Hannes Orlamuender, and Paul Gubitz to secure gold for Germany. Competing with them were Jessica Degenhardt and Cheyenne Rosenthal on another sled. Austria took the silver in this event, while the host country, Canada, celebrated a third-place finish, leaving the U.S. in fourth.
Luge action continues next weekend in Pyeongchang, South Korea, as the World Cup season carries on. Some racers may opt out of the remaining two stops, including the finale in Yanqing, China, set to take place in two weeks.
