Thrilling Finish: Three Ramblers Shine in Top 25 Rankings of Regular Season Finale – Loyola University Chicago Athletics

SPRINGBORO, Ohio – Loyola Chicago’s men’s golf team wrapped up its regular season at the Wright State Invitational, finishing sixth out of 12 teams with a total score of 852 (281-285-286). This marks their best performance in terms of par this spring.

Head coach Erik Hoops expressed optimism about the team’s performance, saying, “We made plenty of birdies and eagles to compete, but we had a few too many errors that held us back.” The course conditions were challenging, with the team having to adjust due to 6.5 to 7 inches of rain leading up to the event. Many bunkers were unplayable, affecting the team’s usual strengths in recovery plays.

Three Loyola golfers made it into the top 25. Zach Mulhearn led the way, tying for 14th place with a score of 211 (69-70-72). Ryan Walsh and Charlie Kulwin both tied for 21st at 213. Walsh’s scores improved each round (73-71-69), and Kulwin wrapped up with two under-par rounds (68-75-70). Both finished with over ten birdies, showing their skills on the course.

Sebastian Kasun contributed with a score of 218 (72-71-75), tying for 44th. Dori Lee and Connor Woodin rounded out the team. Lee scored 222 (74-73-75) and tied for 62nd, while Woodin finished with a score of 225 (72-76-77) in 71st place. Notably, Lee achieved two eagles during the tournament.

Looking ahead, Loyola is set to compete in the Atlantic 10 Championships in Orlando from April 22-24. “We know conference championships aren’t given; they are earned,” Hoops said. “When all five guys are on their game, we can beat anyone.” He feels confident as they prepare on Bermuda grass, stating he’s excited about their current form.

Golf experts emphasize that consistent performance under pressure is critical, especially as teams prepare for championships. According to recent NCAA stats, teams that stay focused and minimize errors increase their chances of success in playoff scenarios. As Loyola looks forward to the A-10s, their recent performance and adaptability to tough conditions could be key.
