The University of Lynchburg men’s tennis team faced off against Division I rival Saint Francis and ended up with a 5-2 loss.
The match kicked off with doubles play. Lynchburg’s duo, Ricards Spaks and Nicholas Pierreux, clinched a 6-4 win at the top doubles spot. However, Saint Francis took the other two doubles matches, winning 6-4 and 6-3, which gave them the overall doubles point.
When it came to singles, Saint Francis quickly dominated. Ricards Spaks fell 6-2, 6-3 in the top singles match. Nicholas Pierreux lost 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2. Alexandre Gaboardi couldn’t find his footing, losing 6-3, 6-2 at No. 3, and Sebastian Sierra faced a tough defeat at No. 4 with a score of 6-0, 6-1.
Lynchburg did secure two points in the later singles matches. Alvaro Quiroga Amaya won 6-3, 6-1 at No. 5, and Daniel Gomes followed suit with a 6-3, 6-4 victory at No. 6.
With Saint Francis taking the doubles point and the majority of singles matches, the final score stood at 5-2. Lynchburg’s victories came from Spaks and Pierreux in doubles and from Quiroga Amaya and Gomes in singles.
Looking ahead, Lynchburg will compete against Gordon College in the Spring Tennis Fest before wrapping up this phase of the season.
