FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason Patriots faced off against the Georgetown Hoyas in a thrilling game that ended with a close score of 15-14 in favor of the Hoyas.

Georgetown jumped out to an impressive start, scoring six runs in the first inning. They continued to dominate, reaching 12-0 by the end of the third inning. The Patriots didn’t back down though; they rallied late in the game, scoring five runs in the ninth inning before falling just short.

  • Junior center fielder James Quinn-Irons shined with five hits, five RBIs, and four runs scored.
  • Sophomore second baseman Jake Butler also had a strong performance, finishing with two hits and four RBIs.
  • This game marked NCAA debuts for freshman Michael Madigan and graduate student Gardner Meeks.
  • Graduate student Nick Barenz started behind the plate and graduate student Garrett Pancione made his debut as well.

The Patriots showed resilience. After falling behind, they began scoring in the third inning. Two key walks allowed Quinn-Irons to drive in the first run, and Butler followed up with a two-run hit. They continued their charge in the fourth inning, batting around and pulling the score to 12-7.

Georgetown, still on top, added to their score with three more runs in the sixth. However, the Patriots came alive in the final frame. They started strong in the ninth, with the first five batters reaching base. Quinn-Irons hit a double, further narrowing the Hoyas’ lead.

Despite the late surge, Georgetown’s Ethan Rucker closed out the game with a key strikeout, sealing the victory for the Hoyas.

Overall, both teams showed exciting play. The Patriots managed to record 16 walks in the game and saw all 12 players reach base at least once.
