Thrilling Non-Conference Doubleheader: Setters Shock Lady Chargers with Stunning Upset!

Pleasantville, N.Y. — The Dominican University New York softball team faced a tough day against Pace University, losing both games in a non-conference doubleheader at the Pace SB Complex.

In the first game, Pace clinched a thrilling 5-4 victory with two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. The loss puts the Lady Chargers’ season record at 5-17.

Game One: Pace jumped ahead with three runs in the first inning. Dominican fought back, scoring a run in the fourth with a sacrifice fly by Jalaeya LaPorte, narrowing the gap to 3-1. In a dramatic seventh inning, Dominican surged ahead with a two-run double from Adriana Barnes, followed by an RBI single from Emily Angulo, leading to a 4-3 lead. However, Pace rallied back with a bases-loaded walk to tie it and then clinched the win with a run-scoring single.

Barnes and Chloe McIntosh each contributed two hits in this nail-biter. Unfortunately, Victoria Iorio took the loss after pitching two and two-thirds innings in relief.

Game Two: Pace’s offense was relentless, scoring in every inning for the first three frames, racing to a 12-0 lead. Dominican finally got on the board in the fourth, but Pace responded, adding two more runs for a decisive 14-1 win. Gianna Barbieri was on the mound for three innings and took the loss in this matchup.

For Dominican University, the losses were disheartening but provide valuable lessons as they prepare for their next game against Bloomfield College of Montclair State University. Staying resilient and learning from each experience is crucial for their growth this season.

In the context of women’s athletics, the challenges faced by teams like Dominican reflect broader trends in collegiate sports, where competition is fierce and every game matters.
