COSTA MESA, Calif. – The Concordia University Irvine women’s lacrosse team put up a strong fight but lost 10–9 in overtime to the San Diego Toreros on Senior Day at home.
Before the match, the team honored five seniors: Darby McGregor, Maya Kay, Jessi Borton, Anabel Manuel, and Riley Finch. This ceremony celebrated their contributions and commitment to the program.
The game was competitive, with both teams trading goals. Despite their best efforts, the Golden Eagles could not clinch the win as the Toreros scored the decisive goal in overtime.
Lexi Miner was the standout player, netting three goals for the Golden Eagles. Presley Macktinger added two goals. Mia Mongan, Jessi Borton, Kayla Cimarusti, and Sophia Lindall also scored, contributing to a balanced offense.
In addition to scoring, Mongan was a key playmaker, providing two assists. Other assists came from Courtney Miller and Riley Finch.
Defensively, goalie Darby McGregor made six crucial saves, keeping the game close until the end.
The Golden Eagles showcased great determination throughout the match, pushing the game into overtime and delivering a memorable farewell for their seniors.
Looking ahead, CUI is eager to bounce back. They’ll face the Fullerton College Hornets on Wednesday, March 18, at 6 p.m. at home.
