TROY, Ala. – Troy’s softball team kicked off their weekend series with a strong performance, defeating Georgia State 3-1. Lydia Kirby made her mark by hitting a pinch-hit homer in the fifth inning, lifting the Trojans to victory.
Abby Lovell pitched a fantastic game for Troy, striking out 12 batters. This win marked their first in the Sun Belt Conference this season. Lovell’s complete game was impressive, especially against a Georgia State team that was leading the conference in batting average coming into the match.
Georgia State started strong, stringing together some hits in the first inning to take an early lead. Despite their momentum, Lovell struck out the side, showing her dominance. The Trojans quickly bounced back, tying the game when Makaley Boswell hit a single that scored Megan Loftis.
Boswell not only tied the game but also played a crucial role in extending the lead after Kirby’s homer. She hit an RBI triple to score McKinnon Howard, solidifying Troy’s advantage.
As Lovell continued to keep Georgia State at bay, she added more strikeouts in the late innings, finishing the game without allowing any walks. Her solid performance was crucial, especially as the team faced a tough opponent.
