Historic Win for UH Men’s Volleyball: A Look at Their Journey to the Final Four
The University of Hawai’i men’s volleyball team made history with an exciting victory over Southern California, earning a spot in the Final Four. This was the first time in their history that they played an NCAA Championship match at home. The Rainbow Warriors battled hard, winning 25-22, 24-26, 25-23, 32-30 in front of a record crowd of 10,300 at the Bankoh Arena.
The Warriors, now 28-5, have reached the Final Four for the second consecutive year and the 11th time overall. Kristian Titriyski, a standout player, scored a match-high 19 kills during his first NCAA tournament match. His teammate Adrien Roure shined as well, with 13 kills and a record-breaking seven aces.
Setter Tread Rosenthal, named Big West Player of the Year, provided 56 assists, guiding the team to a solid .328 hitting percentage, compared to USC’s .294. The game was a true test of teamwork and resilience.
Interestingly, this match set a new attendance record for NCAA Men’s Volleyball Championships, showcasing the growing popularity of the sport. Next up, the Warriors face Long Beach State in a semifinal match at Pauley Pavilion in Los Angeles. This matchup is significant as the teams have a recent history, with Long Beach winning their last encounter in the Big West Championship. However, UH had previously swept them in the regular season.
The competition this year features three Big West teams in the Final Four, indicating the conference’s strength in volleyball. UC Irvine also made headlines by upsetting the top seed, UCLA.
