The No. 9 Marshall Men’s Soccer team faced off against the Old Dominion Monarchs this past Sunday but ended in a scoreless draw. The game took place in Norfolk, Virginia, and was a challenging one for the Herd.
Coach Chris Grassie noted that the game’s uneven pace made it difficult for the team to find their rhythm. Old Dominion played defensively, leading to a choppy match. Despite these challenges, Grassie praised his players for keeping their composure. In the last 20 minutes, the team increased their offensive energy, creating several scoring chances.
Defensively, Marshall tightened up, recording their fourth consecutive clean sheet, thanks in part to goalie Eddie DeMarco, who made four critical saves, including two pivotal stops in the first half.
In terms of offense, the Herd struggled initially, not registering any shots in the first half. After halftime, Larry Noel took charge, attempting two shots. Substitute Keaviano Francis also made an impact with a close save from Old Dominion’s keeper in the 76th minute.
Both teams ended the match with few shots on target—Marshall recorded two, while Old Dominion had four.
Next, the Herd will head to Morgantown for the Mountain State Derby against the West Virginia Mountaineers this Friday.
