Thrilling Series Finale: Houston Christian University Huskies Fall to SFA

Houston Christian University faced a tough loss against Stephen F. Austin State University, ending the series with a score of 10-1 at Husky Field. The Lumberjacks dominated the game, scoring seven runs in the sixth inning.

The Jacks took an early lead thanks to Jamie Varga’s RBI single and a two-run triple from Ellie Vance in the third inning. The sixth inning saw their offense explode, aided by three errors from HCU. Kylie Bishop and Adelyn Becerra each hit two-run singles, contributing to a total of six hits in that inning, five of which were unearned runs.

HCU finally got on the board in the sixth, when Maddy Bailey led off with a triple and later scored on a sacrifice fly from Jade Moreno. Bailey had a solid game, going 2-for-3, along with teammate Chloe Foster, who matched her with two hits.

Addy Prasifka took the loss for HCU, allowing three runs on seven hits over 3.1 innings. On the other hand, Ellie Vance shone for the Jacks, going 4-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored. Lilly Bean and Kylie Bishop also stood out, with Bean hitting 3-for-3 and Bishop going 2-for-3 with two RBIs.

This game brings HCU’s record to 5-27, with a 2-10 mark in the Southland Conference. The team now faces a challenging schedule, with nine of their next twelve games on the road. Their next matchup is a three-game series against their longtime rivals, the University of the Incarnate Word, starting on April 3.

It’s interesting to note that college softball attendance has been increasing in recent years.
