SINGAPORE — Bryson DeChambeau made a stunning comeback at LIV Golf Singapore on Sunday. He hit his drive into the water, yet still clinched the win in a tense playoff when Richard T. Lee missed a short putt.
DeChambeau finished strong with a 5-under 66, including a key birdie on the par-5 18th. Both players ended up tied at 14-under 274 at Sentosa Golf Club, with Lee matching DeChambeau’s score but faltering at the finish.
Lee, aiming to become the first wild card—players not on a team—to win in the LIV Golf League, had a 2-foot putt that could have kept the playoff alive. However, he missed it. “I wanted to hit it hard, but I probably went too fast,” Lee reflected. “The adrenaline was pumping.” His second-place finish earned him $2.25 million, the highest check of his career, after qualifying by winning a LIV Promotions event.
DeChambeau reacted with disbelief at Lee’s miss, comparing the moment to a historic playoff where John Daly missed a close putt against Tiger Woods. “It felt strange to be on the receiving end of that,” DeChambeau said. “But I’ll cherish this win forever. I’ve been feeling great about my game lately.” This victory marks DeChambeau’s first in a 72-hole event since winning the U.S. Open in 2024 and adds to his collection of four LIV Golf titles.
Jon Rahm finished fifth, ending his impressive streak of five tournaments where he either won or placed second. Meanwhile, the 4 Aces team, led by captain Dustin Johnson, claimed the team title for the second week in a row.
According to a recent survey by the Sports Innovation Lab, interest in LIV Golf events is rising. About 60% of fans reported enjoying the changes in tournament formats compared to traditional golf. As LIV continues to shake up the scene, it’s clear that like DeChambeau, many players are embracing the fresh approach to the game.
