HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall Women’s Basketball faced a tough challenge against Troy, losing 85-82 after leading by 20 points at halftime. Senior guard Timaya Lewis-Eutsey shined, scoring 33 points and achieving her first double-double with 10 assists. It was a disappointing finish, especially in front of an energized “Greek Night” crowd. With this loss, Marshall’s record is now 17-6 overall and 8-3 in SBC play.
Marshall started strong, taking a 21-15 lead after the first quarter and building a 21-point advantage before halftime. Lewis-Eutsey led the charge, scoring 19 points in the first half.
However, the second half saw a turnaround. Troy dominated, outscoring the Herd 53-30, largely due to their control on rebounds. They secured 23 offensive rebounds, giving them multiple second-chance opportunities. In the last minute, Troy hit a crucial three-pointer that swung the momentum in their favor.
Despite the loss, Lewis-Eutsey made significant strides this season. She is now one of only seven players in NCAA DI with four games scoring over 30 points. Moreover, she’s the first Marshall player since Abby Beeman in the 2023-24 season to achieve 10 or more assists in a game.
Ni’Kiah Chesterfield also had a strong showing off the bench, contributing 14 points in 22 minutes. Starter Meredith Maier continued her scoring streak, reaching double figures for the fourth consecutive game with 12 points.
Looking ahead, Marshall aims to regroup as they prepare to host Louisiana on Saturday, Jan. 31, at the Cam Henderson Center. This match presents an opportunity for the team to bounce back and showcase their talent.
