Ottawa University Softball Team Fights for Split Against Cottey College
In a thrilling doubleheader at Alumni Park on Tuesday, the Ottawa University softball team showcased determination, splitting their games against Cottey College. They lost the first game 5-3 but bounced back to win the second 2-1.
Game 1 Summary
The first game started with Ottawa making an early statement. Brookelynn Becker hit a double to score Cece Mora, tying the game at 1-1 after Cottey had taken the lead due to an error.
However, Cottey found their rhythm in the middle innings. They capitalized on a series of hits and an unfortunate misplay in the field, scoring four runs to take a comfortable lead. Although the Braves rallied in the sixth, driven by a two-run double from Emma Melvin, it wasn’t enough to overcome Cottey’s two-run advantage.
Overall, Ottawa had five runners left on base and struggled to connect at crucial moments against Cottey’s strong offense.
Game 2 Summary
The second game was a showcase of grit and skill. Ottawa struck first with Lilli Richerson hitting an RBI double following a pinch-hit appearance by Elza Clift. Cottey responded with a tying run in the third, but then it became a battle of endurance in the circle.
Ottawa’s Audrey Harrison was impressive, allowing only one run on three hits throughout seven innings. Her control kept Cottey’s hitters guessing all game.
In a nail-biting seventh inning, the Braves mounted a powerful comeback. With Alex Genty and Cassi Rodgers on base, Devanie Medina secured the game with a walk-off RBI single, lifting Ottawa to victory.
