Thrilling Three-Set Clash: North Alabama Volleyball Faces Tough Loss Against Lipscomb

Nashville (November 7, 2025) – The University of North Alabama volleyball team faced a challenging match against the Lipscomb Bisons. In Nashville, they lost in three sets.

UNA (12-14, 6-7 ASUN) started a four-match road trip, hoping to secure a win. While they played hard, the Bisons (12-11, 8-5) led most of the match and managed to fend off the Lions in crucial moments.

Both teams had one win each this season. UNA previously defeated the Bisons in September, showing that they could compete.

Dylann Garner, a sophomore, was a standout with nine kills, hitting an impressive .412. Kendall Barnes added eight kills, while Nicole Sargent contributed seven with a .500 hitting percentage. Kinslee McGowan dished out 26 assists and tied Sargent with two service aces. On defense, Lankford Gurner led with seven digs, complemented by Barnes and freshman Jenna Kolosta, who each had four blocks.

The match started well for UNA, taking a quick 3-1 lead. However, Lipscomb struck back with a 4-0 run. They then secured a strong lead at 20-12. The Lions rallied but ultimately dropped the first set 25-19.

The second set saw both teams exchanging points until Lipscomb pulled ahead with five consecutive points to make it 16-11. UNA made another comeback, closing in at 16-15. Unfortunately, a late surge from the Bisons sealed this set too, ending it at 25-20.

In the third set, Lipscomb jumped to a 12-4 lead. Though UNA fought back, outscoring Lipscomb 12-6 to get within two points, the Bisons closed out the match with a 6-1 run, winning 25-18.

Looking ahead, UNA will play at Austin Peay tomorrow, with the match starting at 7 p.m.
