High Point Women’s Soccer Draws Against Charleston Southern

On Saturday, the High Point University women’s soccer team played to a 1-1 tie with Charleston Southern University at the CSU Soccer Field.

From the first whistle, High Point was on the hunt for a goal. They took several shots early on, and in the 34th minute, Kasey Resker netted her first career goal. This put High Point up 1-0, giving the team a much-needed boost.

However, Charleston Southern quickly responded. Just six minutes later, Cadance Bell scored, leveling the match at 1-1. A near-goal by Peyton Gilmore just before halftime went wide, leaving both teams tied at the break.

The second half saw High Point pushing hard to reclaim the lead. Kari Powell and Bella Burr both took shots early on, putting pressure on the Buccaneers. High Point kept shooting, with eight attempts in the second half, while Charleston fired five.

Despite the efforts from both teams, neither could find the back of the net again. The match ended in a draw, reflecting a competitive spirit on display from both sides.

High Point’s record now stands at 0-8-3, while Charleston Southern is at 3-4-4.

In a recent interview, Head Coach Aaron McGuiness shared his thoughts on the performance: “I thought we played well today. We were more aggressive and forward-thinking. It’s unfortunate we couldn’t secure the win.”

The next challenge for High Point is a match against Presbyterian College on October 11 at 4:00 p.m. during alumni weekend.

Recent trends in collegiate soccer show that draws are becoming more common, reflecting tight competition across various leagues. According to a survey by the NCAA, teams are scoring fewer goals per game compared to previous seasons, leading to more ties as defenses tighten.
