Hyderabad: In an impressive display at the ISSF World Cup in Munich, Indian shooters Arya Borse and Arjun Babuta clinched the gold medal in the 10m air rifle mixed team event. They faced off against China’s reigning champions, Zifei Wang and Lihao Sheng, and won decisively with a score of 17-7.
From the start, Arya and Arjun showed their skill. They qualified for the finals with a strong performance, scoring 635.2, just shy of the world record set by Wang and Sheng at 635.9.
During the final match, the Chinese team initially took the lead, winning the first two points. However, the Indian duo quickly turned the tide, tying the score and then pulling ahead with four straight successful shots, leading 8-2.
Earlier this year, Arya had already made her mark by securing a silver medal with Rudranksh Patil in Lima, Peru. Another Indian pair, Elavenil Valarivan and Ankush Jadhav, finished sixth in the qualification rounds, scoring 631.8.
The bronze medal went to Norway’s Jeanette Hegg Duestad and Jon-Hermann Hegg, who overcame the USA’s Sagen Maddalena and Peter Matthew Fiori with a close 16-14 win.
This victory marks India’s fourth medal at the World Cup, adding to the gold won by Suruchi Singh and two bronzes earned by Sift Kaur Samra and Elavenil Valarivan.
Interestingly, in the 10m air pistol mixed team event, the Indian pair of Manu Bhaker and Aditya Malra placed sixth with a tally of 577 in qualifications.
