The Marquette University women’s soccer team played an impressive match, beating DePaul 4-1 on Saturday at Valley Fields. This win keeps them undefeated in the BIG EAST conference, landing them in fourth place as of October 4.
The first half ended without any goals, but Marquette dominated possession, taking seven shots compared to DePaul’s one. The second half was a different story. Freshman Coco Dorfman scored two quick goals, putting Marquette ahead 2-0 shortly after the break. She was surprised by her fast success, saying, “I’ve never had that happen in my soccer career before.”
Forward Jocelyn Leigh contributed with a penalty kick, scoring her sixth goal of the season, and later assisted on Emily Fix’s goal. Marquette’s statistical dominance continued with 21 shots and 8 corner kicks, signaling their strong attack and solid defense.
Head coach Chris Allen praised his team’s performance, particularly in the second half. “We shifted into a different gear and maintained it. I’m really proud of our effort and execution,” he said.
In support of a good cause, the team also participated in their annual Pan Can match to promote pancreatic cancer awareness.
Looking ahead, Marquette will face UConn on Saturday, October 11, at 5:30 p.m. CT.
