TROY, Ala. – The Troy men’s tennis team has kept its momentum going, winning its eighth match in a row by defeating Jacksonville State 4-1 on Tuesday at the Lunsford Tennis Complex.

Troy’s record now stands at 13-4, with their last loss dating back to February 1. The team faced a slow start but really found their groove during singles play.
Jacksonville State struck first, taking the lead with two 6-3 wins in doubles at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions, leaving the third doubles match unfinished with the Gamecocks ahead 5-4.
In singles, Nicolas Simkin turned things around with a solid 6-4, 6-4 victory in the No. 1 spot, breaking a two-match losing streak. This win put the Trojans back in the game. Next, Noah Martens took court 3, clinching a 7-6, 6-4 win to give Troy its first lead of the day. Martens is now 7-7 for the season and has won three matches in a row.
Hiiro Sakamoto followed with a 6-4, 7-5 win in the No. 4 position, bringing Troy within one point of victory. He is having an impressive season with a 14-1 singles record, riding a 12-match winning streak.
The match was clinched by Henrique de Brito, who won 7-6, 6-2 in the No. 5 spot. The freshman is now 7-5 in dual singles matches. The other two matches in progress were left unfinished, with both still in the third set.
Troy will start its conference schedule next Friday, March 14, against Georgia Southern in Statesboro, Ga., with the first serve set for 12 p.m.
