Thrilling Victory: Wildcats Triumph Over Western Oregon in Four Sets – Central Washington University Athletics

ELLENSBURG, Wash. – The Central Washington University volleyball team recently celebrated an impressive 3-1 win against the Western Oregon Wolves. Despite facing some challenges, the Wildcats showcased their resilience and skill on the court.

Head Coach Mario Andaya noted the team’s determination, saying, “Western Oregon served hard and played good defense. We struggled with our passing, but our players pulled through when it mattered most.”

The match began with both teams fighting hard for control. After splitting the first two sets, the Wildcats stepped up their game, driven by standout performances from Ellie Marble, who recorded 12 kills, and Corinne Westby, who added 11. Kailey Willsey contributed nine kills and also led in service with two aces. Addie Allen played a key role with 24 assists while Payton Davis led defensively with 14 digs.

The first set was tightly contested, with Central gaining a slight edge. After trading points, CWU closed the set at 25-20, thanks to a final kill from Ella Bines. The momentum shifted in the second set, where Western Oregon rallied and edged out CWU 21-20 to even the match.

In the third set, after gaining a brief lead, the Wildcats found rhythm and secured a 25-23 victory, thanks to Westby’s decisive kill. The final set opened with Central taking a quick lead. Although Western Oregon tried to catch up, CWU maintained its advantage, ultimately winning the set 25-20 and the match 3-1.
