This is his third straight year leading ticket sales during the festive season, kicked off by the musical “Wonka” in 2023 and followed by the Bob Dylan biopic “A Complete Unknown” in 2024. His latest hit, “Marty Supreme,” has raked in an impressive $27 million over the four-day holiday weekend.

Chalamet is becoming known for his holiday flair. Paul Dergarabedian from Comscore highlights how the actor consistently picks projects that resonate with audiences. “No matter the genre, he’s become a genuine box office star,” he says.

Historically, holiday releases often see a surge in ticket sales, making December a crucial month for films. Chalamet’s previous releases during this season, including “Wonka” and “A Complete Unknown,” both benefited from this trend. “Wonka,” for instance, opened with $39 million and ultimately grossed $218 million in North America.

Chalamet, who recently turned 30, has enhanced his profile through a mix of blockbuster hits and indie films. His choices, like taking on the titular role in “Wonka” and participating in projects with iconic music, demonstrate his willingness to push boundaries. However, not all films succeed; this November saw the biopic “Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere” struggle to attract audiences beyond its dedicated fanbase.

To promote “Marty Supreme,” Chalamet has tapped into social media in a big way. From giving away vintage windbreakers to friends to flying a bright blimp, he’s creatively engaged his audience. His promotional efforts have resonated strongly, catching the eye of analysts like Jeff Bock, who calls it “high-level genius.”

By blending creativity with marketing savvy, Chalamet continues to redefine what it means to be a successful actor in today’s film industry. If this trend continues, he may well become a staple of the holiday season—much like Smith and his summer blockbusters before him.
