Timothée Chalamet might not be a fan of being called “Lisan al-Gaib” in the streets, but he definitely holds it with pride. This phrase comes from his role as Paul Atreides in Dune: Part Two, where he embodies a legendary figure for the Fremen. After the film’s release, this nickname took off on social media, becoming a sort of meme that many fans now use.
Just a few days ago, Chalamet finished filming Dune: Part Three. He joined actor Adam Sandler in Los Angeles to chat about their careers. They watched clips from their films, including Chalamet’s standout speech from the end of Dune: Part Two.
Chalamet shared, “Memorizing that speech was quite the challenge. It’s in a fictional language, and Denis Villeneuve, the director, had me learn it in English too. Some lines are just typical spoken words, but I take great pride in that sequence.”
Reflecting on his journey, he said, “I feel connected to this story, especially after finishing filming just days ago. It’s incredible how something so unique—full of psychedelic themes—has affected me personally. Watching that clip brings me to tears.”
Having recently wrapped up smaller projects like A Complete Unknown and Marty Supreme, he contrasted those experiences with the massive scale of Dune. “With such a big production, there are days where not much is demanded of you. I focused on that one scene, thinking, ‘This is my moment.’ It meant a lot to me to prove myself.”
Chalamet expressed satisfaction, noting the first film lacked a climactic moment for Paul Atreides. “I felt like I was building toward that moment for years,” he said. “Now, when people shout ‘Lisan al-Gaib!’ at me, it’s a bit embarrassing, but I appreciate it.”
His latest film, Marty Supreme, hits theaters on Christmas Day, while Dune: Part Three is expected to close Paul’s saga on December 18, 2026.
As fan engagement around Dune continues, a recent survey revealed that 75% of viewers felt a strong connection to its themes of destiny and power. This shows how impactful the film has been, not just in the world of cinema but in popular culture as well.
