Tamil Nadu Governor R.N. Ravi recently responded to Chief Minister M.K. Stalin’s comments about the national anthem. The exchange occurred during the assembly’s opening session, where the national anthem was not played, leading to a heated back-and-forth between the two leaders.

In a social media post, Governor Ravi criticized Stalin for calling his insistence on respect for the national anthem “childish.” Ravi expressed that such remarks show a disregard for the nation’s values and the Constitution. He mentioned that while the state anthem, Tamil Thaai Vaazhthu, was sung, the absence of the national anthem was noteworthy and unacceptable.

Governor Ravi emphasized that respecting the national anthem is a fundamental duty and that dismissing it is a serious matter. His statement highlighted that Bharat (India) is akin to a supreme mother, with the Constitution representing the core faith of the nation.

This incident is part of an ongoing tension between the governor and the Tamil Nadu government. Stalin noted that in previous years, the governor had delivered his address without issue. However, in recent sessions, Ravi has either altered his speeches or walked out, citing various reasons that Stalin described as “absurd.”

Stalin defended the tradition of playing the Tamil anthem at the start and the national anthem at the end of the assembly sessions. He argued that these practices have been followed for many years and are part of respecting both state and national identity.
