Laborers have struggled to work outside, raising concerns among farmers trying to cultivate Boro rice in low-lying fields.
Meteorological observer Abu Sufian highlighted that morning humidity peaked at 97%, which made the cold feel more severe. While temperatures slightly improved during the day, low-income families have been the hardest hit. Daily wage earners face challenges, and health professionals report a rise in cold-related illnesses.
Chuadanga recorded its lowest winter temperature of 8°C, which disrupted lives there. According to local meteorologists, temperatures dipped nearly 5°C overnight. The increasing cold has led to a spike in demand for winter clothing, with shops seeing a rise in sales of jackets and sweaters.
In Rajshahi, vulnerable groups like day laborers and rickshaw pullers are braving the cold for work. Nazmul Hossain, a laborer from Charghat upazila, described how tough it is to stay warm, even while wearing multiple layers.
Mostafizar Rahman from the Rangpur meteorological office noted that temperatures have been fluctuating between 12°C and 13°C. However, some areas experienced a daytime increase of 8°C to 10°C, suggesting that the cold is easing. Expect mild days ahead, but night temperatures may still dip.
