Bethesda Game Studios head Todd Howard has clarified expectations around the upcoming Starfield update. He stated that it won’t be a complete transformation of the game, saying, “It is not Starfield 2.0.”
For about a year, fans have been eagerly waiting for news after Bethesda hinted at exciting developments following the mixed reception of Starfield’s major add-on, Shattered Space. In a recent chat on the Kinda Funny podcast, Howard mentioned, “We’ve been working on a lot of Starfield content. You’ll see it soon.”
However, he managed expectations by stating, “If Starfield didn’t connect with you right away, I don’t think this will change that fundamentally.” This honesty reflects the studio’s understanding of its audience.
Howard described the updates as alterations that enhance the game’s experience, promising more depth and fresh ways to explore outer space. He indicated that the updates are on the horizon but not necessarily the last we’ll see of Starfield. “We’re doing more Starfield stuff coming up,” he assured, indicating ongoing support and development for the title.

Howard shared that Bethesda’s 500-person team is mostly working on The Elder Scrolls VI, signaling a return to the classic RPG style reminiscent of Skyrim and Oblivion.
