Tom Holland Hurt on ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Set: What Happened and What It Means for Filming

Tom Holland recently experienced a mild concussion while filming “Spider-Man: Brand New Day.” As a safety measure, he will take a short break from the set. Good news: no one else was hurt in the incident. Sony and Marvel Studios are set to have a meeting soon to discuss the next steps for production.

Filming for “Brand New Day” kicked off in Glasgow earlier this month, and the movie is slated for release on July 31 next year. This marks Holland’s return as Spider-Man since his last outing in “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” released in 2021.

In a video from the set, Holland shared his excitement. “It’s day one, my fourth ever day one on ‘Spider-Man,’” he said. “Putting on the suit feels different this time. We had fans on set, so sharing this with them is really thrilling.”

Holland will be joined on screen by familiar faces like Zendaya and Jacob Batalon. Newcomers to the Marvel family include Liza Colon-Zayas from “The Bear,” Tramell Tillman, known for “Severance,” and Sadie Sink of “Stranger Things.” Fans can also look forward to Mark Ruffalo returning as Bruce Banner and Jon Bernthal reprising his role as the Punisher.

While health concerns in Hollywood often spark discussions, it’s worth noting the larger trend of safety protocols in film production. According to a 2022 survey from the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE), 72% of crew members reported feeling more secure with on-set safety protocols since the pandemic began. This highlights a growing awareness of the importance of safety in filming, ensuring that actors like Holland can focus on delivering great performances without compromising their health.
