Tom Vilsack, the former Governor of Iowa and U.S. Secretary of Agriculture, has a new role. He will take over as CEO of the World Food Prize Foundation starting March 1, 2025.
Vilsack is excited about this opportunity. He believes that the Foundation has a rich history of tackling global food security challenges. In his new position, he plans to build on this legacy, working closely with the Foundation’s team to enhance its impact around the world.
“I look forward to forging new partnerships and finding innovative solutions to fight hunger,” Vilsack stated. His goal is to create a sustainable and fair food system for future generations.
As CEO, Vilsack will expand the Foundation’s global network. He aims to reinforce its position as a leader in addressing food insecurity. Mashal Husain, the Foundation President, will continue to lead innovative programs that drive food systems transformation.
“It is an honor to welcome Secretary Vilsack,” Husain said. Together, they will work to inspire big ideas and collaborative solutions to global food challenges.
Vilsack’s experience is vast. He served as Iowa’s governor from 1999 to 2007 and held the role of U.S. Secretary of Agriculture under Presidents Obama and Biden. His background in leadership and diplomacy is expected to benefit the Foundation as it strives for positive change in food security worldwide.
