On February 1, 2025, Young Actors Theatre celebrated 50 years of creativity and community with a glamorous black-tie gala at the Florida State University Student Union. The night was hosted by Tony Hale, an alum of the theatre and a three-time Emmy Award winner. Over 550 guests gathered to support a new endowment fund, raising an impressive $290,000 to secure the theatre’s future.
During his speech, Hale emphasized the importance of the arts, saying, “Certain personalities need an artistic environment to thrive. A memorable moment of the evening was when Mayor John Dailey surprised Hale with the Key to the City. This award, rich in tradition, symbolizes the highest honor a citizen can receive. The night included performances from current YAT students and alumni, honoring the legacy of the theatre. Attendees also celebrated the introduction of a scholarship program named after Aimee Nicole Sachs, a beloved member of the community. After the formalities, the dance floor came alive with music from DJ DEMP, another holder of the Key to the City. The gala was generously supported by families in the community and local businesses.
“The future of Young Actors Theatre is bright,” said CEO Sarah Roy. “We are dedicated to helping our students grow, both onstage and off.” Since its founding in 1975 by Tina Williams, YAT has been a cornerstone of artistic education, guiding young talents from ages three to eighteen. Here, they learn acting, singing, dancing, and essential life skills that prepare them for adult life.
