Top 5 Exciting Highlights from the First Week of 2026 NFL Free Agency You Can’t Miss!

The Ravens surprised everyone by backing out of a massive trade for Maxx Crosby from the Raiders. This deal would have sent two first-round picks to Las Vegas, but medical concerns about Crosby’s knee changed everything. After years in the NFL, I’ve never seen such a significant trade fall through. I initially thought this deal would benefit everyone: Crosby gets a new start, the Ravens strengthen their defense, and the Raiders gain valuable draft picks. But I still believe it could still turn out to be a win-win.

For the Ravens, general manager Eric DeCosta expressed his disappointment, saying he felt “gutted” about the situation. Yet, keeping those draft picks might have been wise. They signed Trey Hendrickson, who had impressive seasons with 17.5 sacks back-to-back while in Cincinnati. This adds depth to their defense without losing any key draft assets.

The Raiders need to look at this from a more optimistic angle. Losing out on those draft picks is tough, but they improved their team by signing top players like center Tyler Linderbaum and adding talent to their defense. If Crosby stays healthy, he’ll be a powerful force on the field, possibly even more motivated than before. Las Vegas could still trade him later or benefit from his talent if they draft a quarterback like Fernando Mendoza first overall. A solid team around a rookie could really help with his development.

Despite the disappointment, the Raiders have plenty to build on, showing that the situation may not be as bleak as it first seemed. In the NFL, teams must adapt quickly to changes and focus on the future.
