In “Turn Me On,” directed by Michael Tyburski, people greet each other with a bland question: “Are you content?” The answer? “Quite content.” This exchange shows how detached everyone has become. The government has given out daily “vitamins” that numb feelings, keeping society in a state of apathy. When Joy (played by Bel Powley) skips her pills during cancer treatment, she starts to feel alive. Suddenly, she notices new emotions—curiosity, desire, even jealousy. Joy and her partner, William (Nick Robinson), explore these feelings together, diving into the world of intimacy for the first time. Angela Bourassa’s script raises questions about a world without books or movies about love, but overall, “Turn Me On” is a humorous and poignant tale about breaking free from conformity.
